Safe Routes Survey

Dear Edison Families,

Edison Elementary has been selected by the Washington State Department of Health to participate in the 2016 Student Travel Survey. A representative will be calling parents sometime in May, and you may be getting a phone call.  The survey helps provide the Washington State Department of Health, the Department of Transportation, and the OSPI with data to continue programs such as the Safe Routes to School and bike safety.  We encourage you to participate in this survey. For more information, please see the attached “Frequently Asked Questions Student Travel Survey 2016” provided by the Washington State Department of Transportation. Thank you!   2016_FAQ_Parent_English_03.23_1.pdf             2016_FAQ_Parent_Spanish_03.23.pdf

Police Alert Community To Luring Incident

A parent reported to police this morning that a subject tried to coax her daughter into his vehicle March 1 after school. The suspect attempted to coax the 15 year old girl into his silver mini-van as she was walking along South 7th Avenue. The vehicle had no license plate on the back and was described as possibly a Dodge Caravan.    The suspect was described as a heavy set Hispanic male with an orange hat, in his early 40’s. When the girl denied his offer of a ride, he followed her for a few blocks continuing to talk to her. He told her she was pretty and that he knew her dad and it was OK if he gave her a ride.    Parents are reminded to talk to their children about never accepting a ride from strangers and to call 911 immediately if it happens.

New Parent Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures

The safety and well-being of your children is our paramount duty and we are committed to keeping all students, staff and guests safe. We have made a decision to adjust our parent drop-off and pick-up procedures in an effort to improve safety. Beginning Monday, March 21, the gate to the back lot playground will be closed and no longer used for parent drop off and pick up. It has been deemed unsafe by the district’s school zone safety team and our school safety team to use this area for drop-off and pick-up. Please click on the link below for more information about this decision and details for drop-off and pick-up procedures. Safety first is our motto. We appreciate your support and patience as we make this transition. Thank you.
